About The Button Girl

The Button Girl is the creative endeavor of Rachael Starkweather, who is well-regarded for her distinctive ability to create buttons that encapsulate endearing images. Her career began in 2002 when a moment of inspiration led her to borrow a button maker and create a "DORK OUT" button, which resonated with the public. By 2003, Rachael had moved back to Portland and pursued her craft full-time with her own button maker, marketing initially at local venues such as Last Thursday on Alberta Street.

During a seven-month road trip in 2004, Rachael took her products to various brick-and-mortar shops, leading to her first major wholesale order of 3,000 buttons. This experience laid the foundation for her business strategy, which was further solidified at the Portland Gift Show in 2008, marking her reputation among handmade business owners. Now, Rachael operates out of her Northeast Portland studio, where she continues to design unique buttons and magnets.
