Smart Architecture

For more than twenty years, the firm has helped clients create thoughtful and efficient spaces in a wide range of project types. Much of the work is residential, and the practice has also completed institutional and commercial projects.

Design services

Smart Architecture provides coordinated design services in:

• Architecture
• Landscape design
• Interior design
• Furniture design and custom millwork details

Projects include:

• Renovating, adding to, or transforming existing structures
• Restoring historically significant buildings
• Finding more usable space within the fixed footprint of urban properties
• Designing new construction

The firm often extends its role across building, landscape, interiors, millwork, and furniture so that all parts of a project are well integrated.

Approach and collaborators

Smart Architecture emphasizes listening carefully to clients and guiding a collaborative process with the broader project team. The firm works closely with:

• General contractors
• Structural and MEP engineers
• Lighting consultants
• Cost estimators

The goal is to coordinate information among team members, strengthen the design, and support an efficient construction process.

Office and tools

Smart Architecture works in an open, atelier-style studio that supports sharing ideas and information among team members.

Construction documents are produced using ArchiCAD on Mac, a three-dimensionally integrated design and documentation platform.
