Our Vision Every worker has a career that allows them, their family, and community to thrive. History Seattle Jobs Initiative was created through a partnership that began with Mayor Norm Rice, the Annie E. Casey Foundation, and Seattle's Office of Economic Development (OED) to support low-income individuals with living-wage job opportunities. Officially launched in 1997, SJI spun off from OED in January 2003 to become an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Values SJI is committed to supporting individuals by forming equitable partnerships, addressing structural racism, and being a flexible and innovative intermediary in the workforce development landscape. Testimonials Sally Clark, former Seattle City Council President, attests to SJI's success in breaking long-term cycles of poverty by combining whole systems change with individualized community attention.
