About Renderbound

What Renderbound is

Renderbound provides free browser-based tools for making game assets "engine ready" by converting, inspecting, repairing, and optimizing 3D models, textures, and sprites.

The tools are focused and task-based: add a file, get the result, and download it. No account is required before you download.

Who it is for

  • Game developers and technical artists
  • Teams preparing assets for engines like Unity, Unreal, Godot, Roblox, WebGL, and Blender pipelines
  • Anyone who needs quick, private utilities for 3D and 2D game assets

Key properties

  • Free public tools – the currently available tools on renderbound.com are free to use.
  • Local-first where possible – many tools run in your browser so files are not uploaded.
  • Focused outputs – each tool does one job and returns a finished asset or helper output ready for downstream tools.
  • No signup required before download – you can process and download assets without creating an account.

Categories of available tools (summary)

Renderbound currently offers tools in these categories:

  • 3D conversion tools – convert between GLB, FBX, and OBJ to fit common workflows.
  • Mesh repair and simplification – repair STL meshes and simplify geometry while preserving the model silhouette.
  • 3D viewers – quick, private viewers for OBJ, FBX, GLB/glTF, and STL files.
  • Texture helpers – generate tangent-style normal maps and grayscale height maps from images.
  • Sprite tools – cut sprite sheets into frames or pack multiple images into a sprite sheet.

Studio (coming soon)

Renderbound Studio is a private, upcoming product that will connect the free tools into saved, repeatable asset pipelines for production teams. It is currently in early-access development and not yet publicly launched.

  • Automate abusive traffic or scraping intended to overload the service
  • Interfere with other users or the stability of the service

Automated access

  • Reasonable search indexing is permitted.
  • Automated tool execution, high-volume scraping, and attempts to evade usage controls are not allowed.

Enforcement

To protect the service and its users, Renderbound may:

  • Reject specific files
  • Throttle or limit activity

File retention and data handling

Local tools

For tools that run locally in the browser:

  • Source and generated files remain in browser memory only.
  • Files stay in memory until you:
  • Download the result, or
  • Replace the file, or
  • Close the page, or
  • The browser releases that memory.
  • Renderbound does not receive the asset bytes for these local tools.

Server-backed tools

Some tools use server-side processing. For these:

  • Temporary inputs and outputs are stored in private object storage.
  • Short-lived signed links are used for secure access.
  • Renderbound deletes temporary inputs and outputs after download when possible.
  • An automatic lifecycle rule removes any remaining temporary files within 24 hours.

Telemetry

Operational telemetry may remain after files are deleted. Telemetry can include:

  • Which tool was used
  • Coarse size and device information
  • Processing outcome and duration
  • Sanitized error information

Telemetry does not include filenames or asset contents.

Deletion and privacy questions

Free tools and capabilities

Renderbound offers a set of focused, free tools for game asset preparation. Each tool is designed to take one input and produce one useful output with minimal setup.

3D conversion tools

These tools convert models between common formats used in game engines and DCC tools:

  • GLB → FBX – convert GLB models to engine-ready FBX files.
  • OBJ → FBX – convert OBJ geometry into FBX for standard 3D workflows.
  • FBX → GLB – create web-ready GLB files from supported FBX models (local where possible).
  • OBJ → GLB – package OBJ geometry as a single GLB suitable for web and engine import.

Mesh repair and simplification

  • STL Repair – fix common STL mesh issues before slicing or importing into other tools.
  • Simplify Mesh – reduce triangle count while preserving the apparent silhouette of the model.

3D viewers

Private viewers let you inspect assets quickly in the browser:

  • OBJ Viewer – preview OBJ geometry.
  • FBX Viewer – inspect FBX meshes, materials, and animation metadata.
  • GLB Viewer – view GLB and glTF assets.
  • STL Viewer – inspect STL files before repair, slicing, or conversion.

Texture and map tools

  • Normal Map – generate tangent-style normal maps from source images.
  • Height Map – create clean grayscale height maps from input images.

Sprite tools

  • Sprite Cutter – split a sprite sheet into individual frames and download them as a ZIP.
  • Sprite Maker – pack multiple images into a tidy sprite sheet for use in games.

Usage model

  • Tools are accessed directly from the website.
  • Many tools are local-first and keep files in the browser.
  • No account is required before downloading outputs from the free tools.

Renderbound Studio early access

What Studio is

Renderbound Studio is an upcoming, private workspace for building repeatable asset pipelines. It is designed to connect Renderbound's focused tools into saved workflows for:

  • Inspecting geometry, materials, scale, and signatures
  • Transforming and optimizing assets (convert, simplify, repair, presets)
  • Handing off engine-ready asset packages

Planned capabilities

Based on the current public information, Studio is expected to include:

  • Reusable presets – save and reuse processing settings for consistent outputs.
  • Batch processing – run the same pipeline across many assets.
  • Engine handoffs – export engine-ready packages suitable for game engines.

Studio is still in development and specific features may change before launch.

Current availability

  • Studio is not yet publicly available.
  • There is no paid subscription or public Studio product on sale at this time.

Join the Studio waitlist

  • Interested teams can join the Studio launch waitlist from the Studio page on renderbound.com.
  • A work email address is requested.
  • The waitlist is used to send launch updates when the workflow is ready for production use.

For questions about Studio or early access, contact team@renderbound.com.
