## History of Merwin Animal Clinic

The Merwin Memorial Free Clinic for Animals was inspired by Judge Henry C. Merwin after his death in 1929. The clinic was founded in 1932 under Harriet G. Bird on Northampton Street, Boston, providing services for horses and work animals.

In 1936, due to expanding demand, the clinic moved to a larger location at 542 Cambridge Street, Allston. Over the years, the clinic shifted its focus from large animals to primarily dogs and cats, growing from 2,500 cases annually to over 8,000 in 2017.

Merwin has been active in community service, involving programs with local libraries, educational institutions, and animal programs. Both the Bird and Simpson families have maintained involvement with the clinic's operations.
