Parenting Plans and Child Custody

When parents cannot reach an agreement about how to share time and decision-making for their children, Miller Law Group assists in developing parenting plans to present to the other side and, when necessary, to the court.

When courts and evaluators become involved
Read more

If mediation does not lead to agreement, or if the court orders it, Family Court Services may become involved to evaluate the needs of the children and each parent's ability to meet those needs.

Family Court Services evaluations

In a Family Court Services evaluation:

  • Both parents are interviewed about their parenting views and skills.
  • Additional information may be gathered by observing parents with their children, conducting home visits, or consulting with professionals who know the child's needs and the parents' skills.
  • Parents may be referred to community resources that can help with communication and conflict-resolution skills.

The findings and recommendations from the evaluation are reported to the parents, their attorneys, and the court.

If a case is sent to Family Court Services for an evaluation by court order, the parents must complete the required questionnaires. Evaluations are only completed for families who have an active family law case pending with the court.

Miller Law Group helps clients navigate these processes and the emotions that often accompany child custody and parenting disputes.
